5Nice for the Price
By jameson
This is a solid, smooth bike. The front end is stiff enough to get out of the saddle if you want. The back end has a bit of flex, but nothing too bad.

I'll respond to some criticisms here:
1) the computer doesn't claim to provide cadence (RPM) so there's nothing wrong with it. It has limited usefulness, though. Mainly it's a timer. I doubt it can accurately measure distance (except in a relative sense), and of course it can't measure calories at all. Most computers that claim to measure calories are just hot air. Use it as a timer. It has auto shut-off and auto-reset.
2) the saddle is standard issue anatomic rode bike, a bit on the soft side but perfectly usable. It's not "unbearable," unless you want one of those giant saddles. But if you actually ride much, you won't want one of those anyway. If you're hard-core you can import your own saddle.
3) mine is really very quiet. Easy to watch TV while riding. If it's loud it probably has drivetrain issues. Any good bike shop can tweak it. I tweaked mine just a bit, just aligning the flywheel. The chainguard is solid and shouldn't give you any problems with rubbing or clanking.

The resistance has a fine adjustment and is very smooth. But if you want to do intervals be prepared for a bit of knob cranking back and forth. Overall I like the the fine adjustment as opposed to something that requires too much fiddling.

Mine arrived with some shipping damage, cosmetic mostly. It's a heavy machine so I can imagine some samples may arrive with significant issues. Nothing new in that I guess.

I'll say this as an out-of-shape 50+ year old ex-cyclist: it'll give you any amount of workout you want, from an easy spin to a kick your behind workout.

4Great Bike
By William Brockfield
I looked at several spinning bikes before choosing this model. Almost bought the Sunny Health (because of the great price point) but then I found the Horizon M4. Horizon Fitness is a division of Johnson Health, located here in the U.S.A. They also make the high-end Livestrong products. I was secure in knowing that the Horizon M4 had a 10 year warranty on the frame, with 1 year parts and labor.

Opening it out of the box, the unit is well packaged with plastic and styrofoam. Note: put package on its side and use two people to slide out. Assembly is easy, as base of unit comes as one piece, and only requires attachment of handlebars, seat post and pedals. Easily put together in 30 minutes.

When riding the Horizon M4, the bike is sturdy and provides good resistance. Tension can be set to low for easy downhill ride, or increased to a very challenging hill workout. This unit comes with a few extras compared with other bikes in its class (under $500). First is toe clips, which are Wellgo, and have good feel to them. Next is cage for water bottle, which is located in good position on the frame. Lastly, is the "computer." This is a cheap piece of plastic, and I can't get it to record the RPM. I wasn't expecting too much, based on the pictures, but a working model would have made this a 5 star review. Do yourself a favor and buy a real cycle computer for $20.

Overall, great bike for the money!

Update 1/28/12--After several failed attempts to mount my cyclocomputer, I took it back and got a heart rate monitor. This works much better! I can vary the intensity of my workout by increasing/decreasing my heart rate. Timex has a good one. Enjoy!

5A great buy with top-rated customer support
By P. Wright
I live in south Florida and I am an avid road cycler. A part of the problem in Florida (besides the lack of hills) is the weather. Most of you around the country would say that Florida has great weather BUT cycle season here in Florida = Hot in the days (high 80's) and rain in the afternoon.
As someone who sets a schedule for riding, the weather has been a major problem for me.

In purchasing the Horizon Fitness M4 Indoor cycle, I was looking for an indoor alternative for those days when it's too hot or too wet to ride outdoors. My wife had a wind-powered indoor exercise cycle in our extra room, but unit was of a poor quality and very difficult to use. The Horizon Fitness M4 Indoor cycle is very similar to the spinning cycles that I have used at the gym.

The unit arrived per delivery schedule, which is always good. It was partially assembled and the remaining assembly was completed quickly. I did have assistance during the assembly so while I do think one person can do the assembly; it was much quicker with two. Once the cycle was assembled, I did find a problem: The cycle computer wouldn't function because the wheel magnet was missing. I contacted customer support and found them to be EXTREMELY helpful. The customer service rep helped me to register the cycle and walked me through basic troubleshooting. It turned out that the magnet was missing. The customer service rep ordered the missing item, and set up an appointment for someone to come to my house to install the magnet. I was very impressed.
I did however, end up installing the magnet myself but the offer of a field technician is a great advantage for purchasing from this vendor.

The Horizon Fitness M4 cycle, is your classic spinning cycle which is well reviewed online. Using it has more to do with keeping a high cadence so that your heart rate is within the right parameters vs. the actual road cycling where the tension on the pedals varies as the road rises and falls. The cycle comes with two wheels on its stand that make it easy to move around the room; When I use the cycle, I position it in front of the TV and under the ceiling fan so that I have something to watch and get a breeze while I exercise.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase. I think the Horizon Fitness M4 cycle is well worth the money and the support and 3 year warrantee make it the best selection in its price range.
