This pair of dumbbells is just what the product description says: a pair of adjustable 52.5 lbs (max) dumbbells. The handle and weights are all metal. When put together properly the dumbbells are solid and safe. I see one reviewer complained the paint has chipped on his set. Personally, I don't EXPECT the paint on a pair of dumbbells to last long; it's not an issue for me. I've read reviews that complain of the paint smell. I have not experienced this problem--some odor on unpacking but it's already almost gone. I think this is a great pair of dumbbells for the price. If you want fancier ones buy the IronMaster ($500 though they do go to 75 lbs) or Bowflex ($300+ with plastic parts), etc. If you want inexpensive dumbbells that do the job and go to 52.5 lbs these are a great buy. Delivery was prompt (less than a week). I'm very satisfied with this equipment.

The weights are exactly as described. They are a crude iron plate, but for the price compared to other adjustable dumbbells, they meet the needs. There is a slight smell from the finish on the plates, but it is not overbearing what so ever. Highly recommend purchasing.

at this price point, you're going to have a hard time doing better. Shipping (free) was very quick and the product is of solid quality. There are no cheap plastic parts and they even give you a couple spare rubber O-rings. The paint chipping is an annoyance, I might try to hit them with a rubber spray sealant or sand blast all the paint off.
