I got this machine directly from Concept 2 - SHIPMENT delivered UPS. I ordered on a Sunday (order actually placed on Monday - next business day - from NW Iowa, and it arrived from Vermont on Thursday afternoon that week so I'm very happy with the timeframe in which it arrived.
I am a 42 yr old female and I was able to slide it in the box on the floor and down my basement stairs by myself. It took only about 5 min to unpackage it and 15 for ASSEMBLY. There are only 8 screws to assemble it with the enclosed Allen wrench which is easy peasy and then just a few minor assembly details for the PM4 monitor. When assembling the seat rail to the end of the main assembly, I had to make several attempts to get the little black top piece to snap down properly in place, but with just a little trial and error, it finally laid down completely. There weren't any really good pictures to show how this part looked after it was assembled properly, but I used the "it doesn't quite look right" idea to press on and figured out it wasn't quite right. It wasn't difficult, however. I just must not have had it at quite the right angle when I first hooked it on there.
I was able to pretty much set up everything on the MONITOR without aid from the manual....which is a good thing since there are not a lot of details on how to do things in there. That is one thing that could be improved upon a little, but luckily it's simple enough. Just mess around with it and you'll figure it out. If you overlook setting the date as soon as the monitor is turned on the first time, like I did, don't sweat it. That one is in the manual. One note on how to add multiple users on the log card, which isn't in the manual, is to go to the "log card" menu from the main menu, then "maintain users" and then select add new user (or you can delete from here, too) and you just use the vertical side buttons to scroll through the letters of the alphabet with the side keys with triangle pointing up and down for scrolling, select the arrow button when you have each letter found to move to the next, then when you're all done hit the bottom button by the box with a check mark to save it. If you are making a quick transition between users, pull the card out and reinsert, then select the user from the menu. Otherwise, you will have to wait for the monitor to shut off by itself to change the user. The current users name will be up in the far right corner which you toggle with the "change display" button to toggle between date or user. The first time, I selected "just row" and the monitor displayed all zeros and didn't work. I couldn't figure it out and explored some of the menus and tried again.....still not working. After about 3 or 4 attempts, I unplugged the monitor from the cord underneath and tried again and it work perfectly. This is the story of my life, by the way. lol
A GENERAL OVERVIEW, like most of the reviews for the Model D, and E, have already said repeatedly, it IS a wonderful piece of equipment. I will definitely have to start with 10 minutes and work my way up from there since I'm a little out of shape again. It gives you a terrific workout in a very short time. It wasn't near as heavy to move as I thought it would be - just 57 lbs for the machine itself, but it is very solidly built. You need not worry about the quality of this machine.
I was a little worried about how much NOISE this thing would make, but it's not noisy at all. It gets a little louder if you pull really hard, but still not loud enough you couldn't listen to tv or music and I was very happy that was the case. Oh, and it can be kind of a pain getting your feet out of the stirrups once they're strapped in there firmly because the rubber of the shoe heels kind of stick and don't slide out easily, but there is a little trick I have found that remedies this problem. If you losen the straps a little, then kind of kick your feet upward first and then lift your heel out, it works so much slicker because the heel of your shoe will not "catch" on the heel support.
I was totally undecided between WHICH MODEL, D or E, to get and then WHICH MONITOR if I got the D. Firstly, I didn't want to spend quite that much to get the E since I thought the D would suffice. I liked the fact that even though the Model E seems like it would be more convenient to get on, I didn't like that you couldn't tilt the monitor up and down, thinking it would make it easier to view since I'm short and my husband is tall. Though I think now I should have gotten the E so I could reach it better since its got a longer arm. I can reach the monitor with my feet strapped in on the D, but it is kind of a reach for me. I'm 5'3", but my arms are a little short and I have a small belly that gets in the way. I can reach easily if I have it ready to go before I strap my feet in because I can scoot the seat up closer. I went with the PM4 because I liked the idea of extra games. However, the biggest reason why I went with the PM4 monitor vs. PM3 monitor is because the PM4 can be updated and thought in the long run, that may be a great feature to have down the road. I am happy with it, but still think maybe now I would have gone with the E solely for the longer arm and thinking the tilt feature may not have been the issue I thought it might be where I should have been more concerned with arm reach. Hind sight...
Another thing I had to decide on was the COLOR. The Model D comes in either a matte gray color or black. Though I like the look of the black, I know from my treadmill being black, that it definitely shows every speck of dust. For this reason, I passed on the classy black for a more practical grey. I'd rather have more time to work out, than to work on keeping it looking clean.
OVERALL, I am satisfied. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a rower. I hope this review will help someone in some way. I know I rely on reviews a lot to make decisions and try to put in things I would want to know about an item. Off to "row my boat". :)
